Friedrich Franz and his architect Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff were influenced and inspired on their travels to England and Italy. The garden was explicitly open to everybody. Woerlitz lies in 11 mile distance from Dessau. you can hike or cycle through the garden kingdom. On Wednesdays, weekends and bank holidays the Dessau-Woerlitz Railways takes you from Dessau station via the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve to Oranienbaum and Woerlitz. There is a bus service during the rest of the week. You can stay over night in Woerlitz: In the village you find many hotels and restaurants.
