You have got the choice between traditional brine spas and modern family and fun thermal pools. In every large town and in many small places you can swim and relax in open air swimming pools in summer. Near Weimar you enjoy wellness with culture. At Hainich National Park you can combine nature, wellness in traditional brine spas with sightseeing visits to the nearby sites of the UNESCO's World heritage: the Wartburg Castle and Weimar.

Kneipp cures generally improve your wellbeing by the application of hot and cold water of different temperatures. Bad Nauheim The brine in Nauheim was already used by the Celts, who settled near the Usa river. Nauheim became a spa in 1835. The small town near Frankfurt developed into one of the leading spas for cardiovascular complaints. Bad Nauheim's guest list is impressive: Albert Einstein was here, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, August Bebel, Erich Kaestner, the empresses Sissi, Alexandra, Auguste Victoria and King Ibn Saud I. Elvis Presley lived in Bad Nauheim during his time with the US Army in Friedberg. The spa buildings are an unique complete Art Nouveau Ensemble. In the thermal brine swimming bath you can choose between three pools with temperatures betweem 80.6 to 96.8 degree Fahrenheit (27 to 36 degree Celsius). top of page << Bad Salzungen The brine springs in Bad Salzungen on the Werra river were already used by the Celts. Salzungen started to be a health resort in 1801. In the graduation house you inhale the brine in modern and historical rooms. The "Kelten" bath offers a fitness club, sauna, massages and cosmetic treatments. In summer you may visit the open air swimming pool. top of page << Bad Langensalza The sulphur springs in Langensalza were discovered in 1811. From then on Langensalza slowly became a spa. The brine, thermal and sulphur baths next to the botanical garden are open daily to all visitors: You can choose between indoor and outdoor thermal brine swimming pools, springs with high concentration of brine and a cascading pool using freshwater from a well. The temperature of the water in the brine springs varies from 32 to 36 degree Celsius (89.6 to 96.8 degree Fahrenheit). Or you go to the sauna, get a massage and try the cosmetic treatments. The sulphur in Bad Langensalza comes from seven springs with different chemical analysis. It is used mainly for mobility complaints. top of page << Heilbad Heiligenstadt Heiligenstadt has been a Kneipp spa since 1929. The spa offers beauty and wellness days in the historical spa buildings with the beautiful surrounding park and accommodation in the nearby hotels. In the modern Eichsfeld thermal bath in the Vital-Park you find a brine swimming pool and a therapy pool, a pool for swimmers and non-swimmers, an area for babies and toddlers, and a heated outdoor swimming pools, solariums and saunas, massages, Kneipp walking pools, outdoor saunas, bowling courses and a bar. You can book medical baths, therapy training and gymnastics. top of page << Wellness and CultureBad Sulza The "Toskana" thermal bath in Bad Sulza, 25 miles northeast of Weimar, offers wellness with light and music, classical concerts under water and moon concerts. Next door you can visit an imitation of Goethe's Weimar garden house. top of page << Family and Fun PoolsMuehlhausen In the Thueringen Therme in Muehlhausen you enjoy swimming and wave pools, sauna, whirlpools, water cascades, water-jet massage, a 75 m long water slide, bikini bar and restaurant. top of page << Hohenfelden The Avenida-Therme at the reservoir in Hohenfelden near Erfurt offers a slide park, a pool bar in the water, out door thermal swimming pool and a sauna area. top of page << Leinefelde In the sports and family pool in Leinefelde near Heiligenstadt in the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park you find a 82 feet long swimming pool, a fun pool with a flow channel, an outdoor brine pool, a children's swimming pool and an area for babies, a 267 feet giant water slide, saunas, thermal relaxation pools, solariums, a Kneipp area and a restaurant. top of page << Tabarz In the spa and family pool in Tabarz in the Thuringian Forest the giant water slide is 377 feet long. Or you try the 213 feet turbo water slide. You also find sports pools, children's and outdoor swimming pools, a sauna landscape, solariums, restaurants and a spa shop selling everything you might need for therapy. You reach Tabarz from Gotha by tramway. top of page << Bad Nauheim The Usa wave swimming pool in Bad Nauheim near Frankfurt has wave pools with water-jet massage, an area for babies and toddlers, a giant water slide, saunas and solariums, and an outdoor thermal pool. In summer the open air swimming pool and the lawns for sunbathing are open. top of page << Open Air Swimming PoolsYou find open air swimming pools in Frankfurt, Bad Nauheim, Muehlhausen, Treffurt, Mihla, Bad Heiligenstadt, Erfurt, Weimar, Dessau, Ilmenau, Stuetzerbach, Gotha, Eisenach, Friedrichsroda, Tabarz, Bad Salzungen and Vacha. In Frankfurt you can visit the heated Hausen open air swimming pool from the end of April to September. You can get massages there on appointment. Near Eisenach you swim in the Ruhla swimming pool next to the Thuringian Forest. In Weberstedt you swim next to Hainich National Park. In the Dessau Woerlitz Garden Kingdom you can hike, cycle and swim in summer: The trains of the Dessau-Woerlitz Railway stop at the Strandbad Adria bath, and you can swim in the open air swimming pools of Gross-Kuehnau and Mosigkau. top of page <<
