town hall Eco Travel: Hiking, Cycling & Canoeing |
From the inscription on the town hall: Today's three-story town hall was built by the respected merchants family Uckermann as a business location in the middle of the 17th century. Like many other buildings in Wanfried, the building stands on the vaulted cellar of an earlier house, which had been burned down during the 30-year war. The distinguished merchant and trader von Uckermann was part of a far reaching network. After the 30-year war, he started a trade office in Wanfried. From here, von Uckermann could not only use the Werra shipping route, but also the trade routes to Thuringia, Saxony, Silesia, Franconia and Bavaria. top of page <<
