Eco Travel: Hiking, Cycling & Canoeing

Mihla on the knee of the Werra is a good stop-over when you are

on a canoe trip from Creuzburg to Eschwege,

on a bicycle tour on the Werra Valley Cycling Trail, or

on a hiking or bicycle tour to the Hainich National Park.

The Haineck cycling trail leads you 3 miles from the Werra at Ebenshausen via Nazza along Hainich National Park to the Haineck castle ruins.

In summer the Mihla open air swimming pool invites visitors.

In the 16th century the Lords of Harstall built three Renaissance palaces in the small village.

Today, you find a restaurant and hotel in the "Graues Schloss" - the grey palace.

The "Rotes Schloss" - the red palace - is still surrounded by the original courtyard of 1580.

Do not miss the altar in the church of Mihla, it was carved around 1500.

The church was originally erected in the 12th century. Parts can still be seen in the tower and in the Romanesque arcades towards the center of today's church.

In and around the church you find the tombstones of the Harstall dynasty.

The main building of today's church and its interior originate from the 18th century.

Do not look for the "Blaues Schloss" - the blue palace - of the Lords of Harstall: It was pulled down in the 19th century.
