Goldackersches Schloss in Weberstedt

Hiking and Birding in Hainich National Park

The Goldackersche Schloss in Weberstedt is the starting point of a 1.9 or 2.9 mile round trip nature discovery trail.

In the year 960, the renaissance palace - the "Schloss" - was mentioned in historical documents for the first time as a moated castle of the Lords of Weberstedt. Later, the building was known as the knight's manor of the Lords of Goldacker.

Today, in the palace there is an environmental and nature center, an exhibition on Hainich National Park and a restaurant.

The nature discovery trail starts in the palace garden. Follow the signposts showing a rock goat.

You arrive at Hainich National Park passing several hundred year old oaks, beeches and ash trees, agricultural fields.

The nature discovery trail takes you to woods that grow again on the former military training site, everything from beech trees, oaks, small leaved lindens, wild cherries and wild service trees, to lookouts and frogponds, an apiary, barbecue and picnic grounds.

Here you may extend the nature discovery trail as far as you like in the direction of Thiemsburg.

The Weberstedt open air swimming pool ist opened from the middle of May to September.

You can buy a National Park Hiking and Cycling Map posted by German booksellers.
