Johann Wolfgang von Goethe travelled much. Follow with him and take a vacation for body, mind and soul. In Goethe's footsteps you combine walks and a visits to historical places; wellness with art and literature. Like Goethe you don't need to go without good food and drink. Here you are human, here dare it to be! Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born in 1749, in Frankfurt am Main, and died in Weimar in 1832. Goethe studied in Leipzig and Strassburg, stayed in Dresden, visited his circle of friends in Darmstadt and Worms, got engaged in Offenbach, went through practical training in Wetzlar, travelled through the Alsace, wandered along the Lahn and Rhine, was in Wiesbaden, Mainz, Hanau, Mannheim and Heidelberg. In Fulda he wrote the largest portion of the poems in his "West-Eastern Divan". When Carl August took the reign of the dukedom Saxony-Weimar-Eisenach, he invited Goethe to Weimar. Through Goethe small provincial Weimar became the German center of arts. Jean Paul, Hegel, Herder, Schiller, Novalis, Bettina and Clemens Brentano, Achim von Arnim, Hoelderlin, Schelling, Schlegel, Caspar David Friedrich, Wilhelm von Humboldt, Arthur Schopenhauer, Felix Mendelsohn-Bartholdy, Ludwig Boerne, Madame de Stael, Napoleon, Heinrich Heine, Casanova...those with rank and title went to Weimar. Goethe travelled from Weimar to Erfurt, Jena, Wilhelmsthal, Neunheiligen, Ilmenau, Bad Berka, Gotha, Dessau, Woerlitz, Aschersleben, Eisenach, Creuzburg, Meiningen, he visited the Wartburg Castle, went to Halle and Giebichenstein, Merseburg, Naumburg, Magdeburg and Halberstadt, Teplitz, to Berlin and Potsdam, Kassel, Goettingen, he hiked across the mountains of the Harz and the Fichtelgebirge. In Rudolstadt Goethe met Friedrich Schiller for the first time, in Schloss Gross Kochberg he visited Mrs. von Stein. Goethe was in Breslau, Cracow und Czenstochau. For his health he stayed in the spas of Wiesbaden, Lauchstaedt, Tennstedt, Karlsbad, Franzensbad, Marienbad and Eger. In Goethe's footsteps, you will discover palaces and castles, walk through river valleys, and woods, travel through residencies and health cure towns, stay at idyllically situated places and discover the history of modern cities.
