To arrive at the destination of your bicycle or canoe trip, you go

by train or by car

travelling from the direction of Frankfurt am Main, Hanover, Erfurt or Berlin.

By Train

You are allowed to take your bicycle along on most trains - or you rent a bike at a train station.

You arrive at the Werra river

via Eisenach (to the Werra springs near Eisfeld, to Meiningen, Bad Salzungen, Creuzburg, Mihla, Treffurt)

via Goettingen, Kassel or Fulda (to Eschwege, Wanfried, Hannoversch Muenden), or

via Wuerzburg (to the Werra springs near Eisfeld, to Meiningen).

To go canoeing on the Saale river at Rudolstadt from Frankfurt am Main, you take the train via

Nuernberg or Erfurt,

or, from Berlin, you travel via

Jena.

For a canoe tour on the Unstrut river, you go to Straussfurt and Naumburg via

Erfurt,

or, from Berlin, you travel to Naumburg via

Leipzig or Halle.

You arrive at the starting or rather exit point of the Unstrut Werra Cycling Trail at Muehlhausen via Eisenach or Erfurt.

You reach the starting point of the Rennsteig Trail at Hoerschel

from Frankfurt via Eisenach or Bad Hersfeld,

from Berlin via Kassel or Goettingen and Bebra.

At the exit point of the Rennsteig Trail in Blankenstein at the Saale river, there are train connections

to Eisenach and Hoerschel,

to Frankfurt via Erfurt, Wuerzburg or Nuernberg,

to Berlin via Saalfeld, Jena, Leipzig.

By Car

The most comfortable way to drive through Germany is via the "Autobahn"-system linking major cities. You get an overview of the signs and numbers used by clicking into www.autobahn-online.de.

From Frankfurt, you reach the Werra River via

Wuerzburg, Schweinfurt, Coburg (to the Werra springs at Eisfeld), or via

the "Autobahn", direction Kassel, Berlin, exit Bad Hersfeld (to Bad Salzungen, Creuzburg, Mihla, Treffurt, Eschwege, Wanfried), or via

the "Autobahn", direction Kassel, Hannover (to Hannoversch Muenden).

From Berlin, you drive via

Erfurt, Ilmenau (to the Werra springs at Eisfeld), or via

Eisenach, direction Frankfurt, exit Bad Hersfeld (to Bad Salzungen, Creuzburg, Mihla, Treffurt, Eschwege, Wanfried), or via

Hannover, Goettingen, Kassel (to Hannoversch Muenden, Eschwege, Wanfried).

From Frankfurt, you reach the Saale river at Rudolstadt via

Erfurt and Weimar.

From Berlin, you drive via the

"Hermsdorfer Kreuz", direction Erfurt, exit Jena-Goeschwitz, to Kahla, Rudolstadt.

From Frankfurt, you reach Straussfurt at the Unstrut river via

Eisenach, Bad Langensalza and Bad Tennstedt, direction Soemmerda.

From Berlin, you drive via

Erfurt.

To reach the mouth of the Unstrut river from Frankfurt, you take the exit to Naumburg on the "Autobahn", direction Berlin,

after you have passed the "Hermsdorfer Kreuz".

From Berlin, you take the exit to Naumburg on the "Autobahn", direction Frankfurt,

before you have passed the "Hermsdorfer Kreuz".

You reach Muehlhausen via Eisenach or Erfurt, Bad Langensalza.

You arrive in Hoerschel at the starting point of the Rennsteig Trail via Eisenach, or from the direction Hannover, Goettingen, Kassel.

To reach Blankenstein at the end of the Rennsteig Trail from Berlin,

you take the "Autobahn", direction Leipzig, exit Lobenstein,

from Frankfurt,

you drive via Wuerzburg, Schweinfurt.
